Předtím než Chen Zixiu zemřela, její věznitelé znovu požadovali, aby se zřekla své víry v duchovní praxi Falun Gong. Téměř v bezvědomí a po opakovaných ranách bodcem k pohánění dobytka padesátiosmiletá žena zavrtěla hlavou.
Rozzuření místní úředníci nařídili paní Chen Zixiu, aby běhala bosá ve sněhu. „Dva dny mučení zanechaly její nohy celé potlučené a krátké černé vlasy slepené krví a hnisem,“ vypověděli spoluvězni a vězni, kteří byli svědky tohoto incidentu. Plazila se venku, zvracela a zkolabovala. Nikdy již nenabyla vědomí a zemřela 21. února 2000.
